What is the TOP Castor Rex and Chinchilla Rex Fur? Lagunita Rexfur Farm has been researching on the improvement of the rabbit skin production since 1989. Its owner, Alejandro Losada, has developed a new technique for the rex rabbit breeding. A meticulous process of genetic selection has been made, in the races Castor Rex and Chinchilla Rex. The reproduction of these rex rabbits is only by artificial insemination. The ideal climate (dry and cold) for the breeding is in an altitude of 1500 meters on sea level, in the mountain range Los Andes, Jujuy Argentina. The cages of the animals are individual, outdoors and hygienic as in an ecological upbringing. We are convinced, that the quality of the fur produced depends on the animals' well-being Is is very important for the quality of the Castor Rex and Chinchilla Rex rabbit skin, to wait for the real “Fur Priming”, that comes at the age of 6 to 8 months. Then, the skin is in the best moment and it doesn't lose any hair. Until then, the Castor Rex or Chinchilla Rex rabbit live animal, must weight between 4 and 5 kilos. The professional dressing should be soft and elastic.

The size of the Castor Rex or Chinchilla Rex Top Furs is very important. It should be more than 53 cm and it can get up to 60 cm. The size depends of the genetics of the race rabbit, the age of the rabbit, the method of upbringing and the feeding. (Wrong: The small sized furs, are of young rabbits of 4 months of age and they don't have the silky shine nor the density, compared to the Top Furs.) |

The Rex Rabbit skin should not have priming (maturation) errors. This is noticed, because the pattern of the hair is not uniform. (Wrong: look at the bad pattern of these unpriming furs.) |
